Great Lakes Bay Region’s Halloween Events

October Weekends @ 7:30-11pm:  Annual Halloween Spook Train @ Junction Valley Railroad, 7065 Dixie Highway, Bridgeport, MI, 989-777-3480.  Come experience an 18-minute ride filled with thrills and chills around every corner.  There are over 80 different scenes and characters waiting for your arrival!!!  While some are funny and cute, others are a bit scary!  Cost is $9.25 per person (all riders MUST have a ticket regardless of age.)  October Weekends takes place October 5th-7th, 12th-14th, 19th-21st, 26th-28th, and 30th-31st.

October 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 & 27 @ 7-11pmThe Haunted Masonic Temple, 700 N Madison Ave  Bay City MI, 989- 893-0343. The Haunted Masonic Temple is a haunted house with a different twist. The Bay Arts Council hosts student performers from the Bay City area who provide a creepy and interactive performance as tour groups explore the historic and yes HAUNTED Masonic Temple. Adults $10/ Students with ID and Seniors over 65 $6

October 14 @ 2pm: Halloween Trio – Movies @ State Theatre, 913 Washington Ave. Bay City, MI, (989) 892-2660. “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”, “Scared Shrekless”, “Monsters vs. Aliens Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space”. Kids Halloween Costume Contest, Giveaways, and Fun Prizes. Admission: One perishable item/ person or cash donation. Sponsored by the United Way of Bay City.

October 18 @ 3:45-5:15pm: Youth Art in the Afternoon – Halloween Sihouettes Mix Media @ Greater Midland Society for Art, 84 Ashman Circle Midland, MI, (989)  631-2493.  Create your own Halloween silhouette using all sorts of fun and exciting mediums — it may even include some candy!  Class is limited to 8 students, and geared toward 5th through 8th graders.  Cost is $5.00 per class.

October 18 @ 6-7:30pm: Pumpkin Festival, Main St., Downtown, Midland, MI, (989) 837-3330. Downtown businesses will host trick or treating, hay rides, pumpkin decorating, rolling and bowling. So wear your costumes and come Downtown. 

October 19 @ 11am: Mom & Me Craft “Halloween” @ Auburn Branch Library, 235 W. Midland Rd., Auburn, MI. Ages 2-5 + adult.

October 19,20, 26 & 27 @ 7-11pm: Haunted Train Ride @ Roethke Park Depot, 400 Leddy Road  Saginaw MI, 989-781-0150.  All aboard… if you dare!  Cost is $5 each — price needs to be confirmed.

October 19-21, 26-28: Zoo Boo! @ Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square, 1730 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw, MI.  Put on your costumes and trick-or-treat your way through the decorated Zoo!  Load your treat bag with goodies from various vendors and booths.  Ticket price includes Zoo admission, train and carousel ride, special entertainment, and trick-or-treating.  Admission is $9. To purchase tickets, call (989) 759-1408.

October 20 @ 10am-2pm: Halloween Health & Safety Fair @ Bay Arenac ISD Career Center, 4155 Monitor Rd., Bay City, MI, 989-894-3935.  The Halloween Health & Safety Fair is an interactive, educational, and fun event for the whole family.  And best of all, it’s FREE!

October 20 @ 4-9:30pm: Mother’s Nature’s Halloween Trail @ Bay City Recreation Area,  3582 State Park Dr.  Bay City, MI (989) 667-0717.  Take a guided walk along a pumpkin-lit trail!  As you hike the trail, you will encounter Mother Nature’s Halloween favorites (and some of nature’s most misunderstood wildlife), including bats, wolves, spiders, vultures, rats, owls, bears, bobcats, and more!  Enjoy free children’s Halloween wildlife crafts, with free refreshments at the trail’s end!  Admission is FREE, with a required State Park passport (Annual Permit) available for only $10.

October 22 @ 4-5pm: Joel Tacey’s Nightmares Up Close @ Wickes Library, 1713 Hess, Saginaw, MI, 989-752-3821.  Complete with a hands-on collection of gruesome artifacts, this program explores facts and myths surrounding eight nightmarish, real-world tales.  Participants play an active role in examining authentic artifacts surrounding the Titanic, Jack the Ripper, African Shrunken Heads, Voodoo Dolls, and more.

October 23 & 25 @ 6, 6:30, 7 or 7:30pm: Trick or Treating in the Wood,  Whiting Forest, 2303 Eastman Ave., Midland, MI. RSVP Required please call (989) 631-2677.  You never know who you’ll meet in the woods with the zany Dow Gardens cast at the helm. (Warning: electronic devices may all fail in the woods due to a crazy scientist and his transmooker device.) Kids will enjoy trick or treating at Whiting Forest in a guided group as a story unfolds before them. This is not designed to be scary. Younger children may prefer the earlier tours before sunset. Fee: $5.00 per child.

October 24 @ 6-8pm:  Fit Club Halloween Party, Dow Diamond, 825 East Main Street  Midland, MI. The Fit Club event will transform the ballpark into a kid-friendly haunted mansion full of fun games like pumpkin bowling, carnival balloon pop and monster mash revolution. Kids will participate in activities like mask making, a game of Simon Says led by Lou E. Loon and entertainment from Calypso the Psychic and Dr. Slime.

October 25 @ 4:30pm: Costume Dance Party, Sage Branch Library, 100 E. Midland St., Bay City, MI. Wear a costume and show off your dance moves! Drop in and rock!

October 26 @ 4:30-6:30: Trunk-or-Treat Around the Track, Ryder Center, Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, University Center, MI. Candy, Activities and More!

October 26 @ 5-8pm: Masquerade, Magic & Music @ Studio 23/The Art Center, 901 N. Water St. Bay City, MI. This all-ages event is an exciting and magical party celebrating music and the arts! Come dressed in your finest mask or costume! Guests will also have the opportunity to create their own mask that evening! Masks by local artists will also be on display!

October 26 & 27: Halloween Bash at Splash @ Splash Village, Zehnders 1365 S. Main St. Frankenmuth, MI.  Friday October 26: Enjoy Halloween crafts, story time, apple cider, and donuts!  Later in the evening, kids can take a Trick or Treat Walk within the hotel and waterpark area, and enjoy a Halloween movie and popcorn to complete the evening.  Saturday October 27: Participate in a coloring contest!  Prizes are awarded for each age group.  Enjoy Halloween crafts, story time, apple cider, and donuts!  Later in the evening, kids can take a Trick or Treat Walk within the hotel and waterpark area, and enjoy a Halloween movie and popcorn to complete the evening. RSVP: Call 800-863-7999 for reservations.

October 27 @ 4-6pm: Harvest Party @ Midland Evangelical Free Church, 7221 North Jefferson Avenue, MidlandInvite your friends and neighbors to this fun night of games and candy collection. Purchase a dinner of hot dogs and chips at the Harvest Party. Family friendly costumes please. Ages: Children through the 5th grade.

October 27 @ 5-9pm: Spooktacular Saturday@ Bay Area Family Y, 225 Washington Ave, Bay City, MI, 989-895-8596.  Come one, come all!  Dress like a zombie, or wear your best Halloween costume!  Drop your kids off, or bring the whole family to join in on this spooktacular, high energy, zombie fitness party!  Activities include Zombie Zumba, Haunted Y Walk, healthy Halloween snacks, and more.  An award will be given to the family with the most creative costumes.  Tennis shoes required.  Y-Members enjoy free admission!  Regular admission for program participants is $10 per family.

October 27 @ 6-8:30pm: Nature At Night @ Chippewa Nature Center, 400 S. Badour St., Midland, MI, 989-631-0830.  Games, activities, and crafts will help kids of all ages learn about nocturnal mammals and the night sky.  A jack o’ lantern trail, storytelling by the light of the fire, face painting, night songs, and a puppet show make this evening fun for everyone.  Kids who dress in a nature-themed costume will receive a treat (while supplies last).  Dress in layers, as activities will be both indoors and out.  This free event is sure to be a fun evening for the kid in all of us!  Bring the whole family and explore Nature at Night!

October 27 @ 6-8pm:  Heroes Unmasked @ Westminster Presbyterian Church, 103 East Midland Street, Bay City, MI, 989-686-1360. Join us for fun carnival games … free candy … crafts and activities … and tons of candy … chats with costumed heroes … and did we mention mountains of candy?

October 27 @ 7:30pm: The Spectrum Brass Quintet performing `All Hallows’ Eve` Featuring Chilling Classics, Terrifying Tunes, and Scintillating Silent Films @ State Theatre, 913 Washington Avenue, Bay City, MI 989-892-2660.  Tickets: $15.00 (Adults), $10.00 (Students).

October 27 @ 8pm-Midnight: “A HAUNTING AT HOYT” (Adult only-event) @ Hoyt Library, 505 Janes Ave., Saginaw, MI, 989-755-9833.  The Saginaw Public Libraries Foundation will host its 1st Annual “A Haunting at Hoyt,” the Ultimate Halloween Costume Party, and fundraiser.  Festivities include music, dancing, an auction, a costume contest, tasty hors d’oeuvres, and spirited libations (cash bar).  Get your tickets at the Hoyt Library, or by phone.

October 27, 2012 through Wednesday, October 31, 2012: Costume Contest! @ Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum, 315 West Genesee Ave., SaginawMI(989) 399-6626. Wear your best costume to the MMCM, for the chance to win a pumpkin full of goodies.   Pictures will be taken of each costume.  A panel of anonymous celebrity judges will select the winner, who will be notified by November 7, 2012.  Pictures will be posted to the MMCM website and/or Face Book page, so a photo release must be completed by parent or guardian in order for child to enter the contest.

October 28 @ 12noon-5pm: Call Me Pumpkin! @ Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum, 315 West Genesee Avenue Saginaw, MI, (989) 399-6626. Guess the weight of the giant pumpkin for a chance to win a fun prize.  Touch and feel squishy pumpkin guts and count how many seeds are in a Halloween Jack o’ Lantern; and listen to spooky sounds as you visit the galleries for a fun day of play!

October 31 @ 9:30am-3pm: Happy Halloween Party @ Grace A. Dow Memorial Library, 1710 W. St. Andrews, Midland, MI.  Enjoy Trick or Treat stations throughout the library, create Halloween crafts in the youth services center, and munch on some cider and donuts in the lounge.

October 31 @ 9:45am, 10:30am, 11:15am, and 1:30pm:  Move & Groove – Halloween @ Grace A. Dow Memorial Library, 1710 W. St. Andrews, Midland, MI.  Get into the Halloween Spirit by joining us for music and dancing before the parades!  Children ages 0-6 are welcome!

October 31 @ 10-11am: Tunes for Tots – DRUM CIRCLE RHYTHMS II @ Midland Center for the Arts, Auditorium Lobby, 1801 W. St. Andrews, Midland, MI, 989-631-8250 or 800-523-7649.  No tricks, just treats, and drum circle beats!  Back by popular demand!  Grab a drum and join our jam session.  Learn about different sounds, drums, and rhythms with percussionist Mike List, in this very interactive, high energy, and fun-filled Tots drum circle.  Costumes are encouraged!
