Prepare for Cute: The American Girl Fashion Show is coming!
Written by: Jen Wainwright
Shopping, hair styling and education all under one roof–The American Girl Fashion Show is coming again October 20 and 21 to the Midland Center for the Arts! With approximately 1,400 in attendance last year, this year’s shows will be grand, beautiful, fun-filled events for girls and their families.
“It’s a chance to celebrate being a girl, and I think that is just so fun,” Kristen Squires, special events and marketing coordinator for MCFTA said.
Grab your little lady, and her American Girl Doll, and catch a show in the little theatre–a colorful presentation of historical and contemporary fashions. Girls from our area, in costumes provided by American Girl, will walk with their matching American Girl doll and each will tell a little story about their special doll.
Lunch will be available after, along with special spots set up in the lobby to promote fun and bonding time with the little lady in your heart. A photo area will be available, where all attending can have their photo taken with their favorite doll. A shopping area will be set up, with souvenirs and merchandise available for your liking. And there will even be a hair-styling “salon”, where your little one can have here doll’s hair styled. (Told you this would be cute!)
Also, new this year, STEM—a Dow Chemical Company program standing for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math—will have literature, activities and a Colorful Kid Display: Elements of Wonder set up in the brick lobby as well. Sustainability is the theme, and 20-30 volunteers will be available throughout the weekend to talk with you and your wee one.
Tickets to Saturday’s shows, Morning Sunshine at 10 a.m., Lunch Bunch Munchies at 2 p.m. and Evening Elegance at 5:30 p.m. are available for $30. Tickets to the all-out Pink Party Paradise show on Sunday at 2 p.m. are $38. While each and every show will be amazing, the Pink Party-Paradise promises pink décor absolutely everywhere, and a buffet line with hot entrees, including chicken fingers, veggies and brownies, rather than a boxed lunch of cold-cut croissants, chips and cookies at the Saturday shows.
“This is a fundraiser event as well,” Squires said. “Proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run of Saginaw, Midland and Gladwin counties, Juvenile Asthma Management and Education and MCFTA’s Art from the Heart Scholarship Fund.”
Merchandise, souvenirs and raffle tickets are available now online at www.mcfta.org and will be sold during the shows. You and your little sweetheart could win: Bitty Twins Starter Collection, a 14-piece set including dolls; “Julie Doll” with bed and bedding and a doll stand; My American Girl Doll with a book, tent, Happy Hiking Outfit; Willy Wonka Family 4-pack of tickets and an American Girl boxed book set and more! And knowing you are helping fund local programs is sure to put a smile on you and your little one’s faces.
“The American Girl Fashion Show is truly a family activity. We’re all about offering family-friendly events in our area,” Squires said.
